The 2011 Caldecott winner is, A Sick Day for Amos McGee, illustrated by Erin E. Stead, written by Philip C. Stead. a charming story about friendship and caring.

The 2011 Caldecott Honor books are: Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave, illustrated by Bryan Collier, written by Laban Carrick Hill and Interrupting Chicken, written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein

The 2011 Coretta Scott King Illustrator’s award goes to Bryan Collier for Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave

Finally, the 2011 Seuss Geisel Award for best begining reader is Bink and Gollie, written by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGee, illustrated by Tony Fucile

Caldecott Award

The students at Traver will begin to discuss the Caldecott award. They will learn what it is and why a book can receive such distinction. We will look at previous Caldecott Award winners as well as await the naming of the 2011 winners.

It’s time to begin the new school year. Every child has library once a week. We will learn and review library citizenship and book care and take out new books. We will be reading texts about visiting a library by Marc Brown and Laura Numeroff. I am looking forward to this exciting time!
